OCR: Compact Pro User's Guide Requirements/Limitations Compact Pro works with all Macintosh models except the 128K and 512K. You must be running version 4.2 or higher of the system software. Compact Pro can store up to 1500 files and folders in an archive. Segmented archives are limited to 255 segment files. How Does Data Compression Work? Compact Pro "compresses" the data in a file by analyzing the data and then encoding it in a more efficient manner. The encoded data takes up much less space, but still contains all of the "information" in the original file. For example, if a document contained the character "A" repeated 20 times, most word processing programs would store this as 20 individual characters.
